2. Location
 BALCHIK

Balchik is a charming town located on the northern Black Sea coast. The town has many historic and natural tourist attractions with its ancient atmosphere that has been preserved for centuries now. It sprung to life about 2600 years ago as the Greek city of Cruny. 'Cruny' means mineral springs, underground rivers, or source. Later on, during the reign of Alexander the Great the city became known as Dionisopol, a Thracian settlement. There are numerous remains of ancient fortifications as evidence of the large area occupied by the town in the past.

Location: A town and seaside resort, situated terrace-like on a beautiful bay on the Black Sea,  25 minutes (31 km) from Varna International Airport. Balchik is the third most significant Bulgarian port after Varna and Bourgas, used for medium-size passenger and trade vessels.

  Places of Interest: Apart from the palace complex and the  botanical garden, which is the biggest and most diverse on the Balkans, the town also appeals to tourists with its ancient spirit, reflected in steep pebbled streets and houses made of stone and adobe.

Outside the city, the area of Touzlata is located 4 km east of the town. It is well known for its curative mud, which was the main reason to build a balneological centre there beside two lakes, formed by old landslides. A large recreational complex, a lot of villas, bungalows and a camping site are can be also found there. There is a mineral spring with water temperature of above 30° C degrees. Fifteen kilometers from the town in the direction south-west is the village of Obrochishte with a well-preserved fortress dating back to the early Ottoman rule, which travelers of that time used to compare with the beauty of Baghdad.
